Why has Android Lollipop not been popular

Java web developmentAndroid developers are always having a special appearance in the IT industry; because, they get support from Google in the form of various Operating system versions and devices. Since Google’s Android operating system’s inception, it has always come up with new and attractive concepts for the industry and hence it is always being respected by the industry experts. May it be Android 2.3 or 4.4 KitKat, all were grand success of their time. So it is obvious to expect a similar experience when there is a new version rolled out in the market. But, this time the situation is in a different mood!! The latest Android 5.0 i.e. Lollypop has not received that much interest from the users even after 2 months of period. What can be the reasons behind? Why Android Lollypop couldn’t get the fire even after 2 months after launch? Is this the fault of Google or anyone else? Should Google panic for the situation? All these questions are striking to our mind. Let us discuss about these points.

If we go through figures and dates.. The Lollypop Operating System was announced in June 2014 in the Google’s annual I/O conference and it released its source code on 3rd November 2014 followed by update available on various devices from 12th of the month. In initial stage, only the Google’s Nexus series of devices received the on-the-air updates on 12th of November. Then it followed to other Samsung devices. It is now more than 2 months; but it has not received that much popularity as any of its preceding versions. Last time, Android KitKat had gained a 1.1% market share within 2 months of its release but the latest Lollypop version has received only 0.1%!! It is really extremely surprising note; because, it is less than one tenth that of its preceding version!!

It is said that this is due to lack of new smart phones and tablets which are powered with the latest Lollypop. Well, if so then why Google not emphasizing on those old devices which run on KitKat!! There is a strong reason behind. Actually, Google has already announced 2 bugs in the latest operating system and they are expecting it to be fixed and released to the users by June 2015!! So, this is really a large time for the users to stick with a bogus OS!! Moreover, this time Google Nexus devices are not manufactured at such huge potential; because we see it becoming Out Of stock in a less time than before.

To add this, the process of OS update is not that much easy as it seems to be. It needs to undergo various stages before it reach to the end user. First of all, it should reach at the Manufacturer, then the manufacturer decides whether it should go for it or not. After that, if it agrees, it first tests the OS in some of its devices on a tailor basis. Then, if everything goes well, it sends the updates to the network and this is then installed by the user’s device!! But, this time the problem is with the 2 bugs which are announced by Google. So, we have to wait till it releases a stable Lollypop by June. Then only we can expect a healthy growth in the Operating system. Till then, we can only wait but we need not to panic because, Google’s Android developer team is working hard to fix the issue at the earliest.
